Approaching the windward mark for the first lap, Motions, Akheilos and Essentia were on port tack with Essentia clear ahead of Akheilos and Akheilos clear ahead of Motions.
Motions was upwind of Akheilos and Akheilos was upwind of Essentia.
Stella Maris was on starboard tack on a collision course with Motions, Akheilos and Essentia.
Motions, Akheilos and Essentia bore away to pass astern of Stella Maris.
At a distance of 1 boat length from the stern of Stella Maris, Essentia turned sharply to windward in order to initiate a tack causing Akheilos to overlap to windward of her.
Essential then passed head to wind and before she reached a close hauled course on starboard tack, Akheilos turned sharply to windward to avoid a collision with Essentia.
Motions now overlapped to windward of Akheilos turned sharply to windward to avoid a collision with Akheilos.
Before Akheilos reached a close hauled course on starboard tack, Akheilos made contact with Motions causing her port pullpit to disconnect from the deck.
No boat took a penalty and Akheilos retired from the race.

The protest is valid.
Situation:
Essentia failed to keep clear of Akheilos as a tacking boat and boke rule 13.
Akheilos failed to keep clear of Motions as a tacking boat and broke rule 13.
Akheilos made contact with Motions and broke rule 14.
Akheilos, was compelled to break rule 13 and 14 by Essentia breaking rule 13 and is exonorated under rule 43.1(a).
Akheilos' score was made significantly worse through no fault of her own caused by damage sustained by Essentia breaking a rule of part 2 and is granted redress in race 6.
Essentia is Disqualified in race 6.
Akheilos is scored points equal to the average of her scores in other races excluding the last race.
Motions broke no rule.
